Air Products and Mabanaft Plan to Build Large-Scale
Green Energy Import Terminal in Hamburg
Air Products and Mabanaft, through its subsidiary Oiltanking Deutschland, announced their intention to build Germany's first large-scale green energy import terminal in the Port of Hamburg. This joint development agreement is an important step towards the development of a green ammonia import and distribution infrastructure in the Port of Hamburg. The project was announced at a ceremony in Hamburg, which was supported by German Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action Robert Habeck and First Mayor of Hamburg Dr. Peter Tschentscher. Targeted to provide hydrogen to Germany in 2026, the planned import terminal is to be located at Mabanaft’s existing tank terminal in the Port. This location offers strategic access to green ammonia from large-scale green hydrogen production facilities operated by Air Products and its partners around the world. The intention is to convert the ammonia to green hydrogen via Air Products’ facilities in Hamburg, before distributing it to buyers locally and across northern Germany. This plan responds to the accelerating demand for clean energy to meet climate objectives and the need to diversify energy sources.

The vehicle used in the demonstration was a H2.City Gold unit, manufactured by CaetanoBus, the largest Portuguese bus manufacturer. In addition to the urban routes in Torrelavega, coinciding with the summer period, the bus provided service in the Cabárceno Nature Park in order to offer a zero-emission mobility alternative inside this natural space.
Air Products to Start Construction of Second Liquid
Hydrogen Plant in Rotterdam
This new hydrogen source is in addition to the company’s existing liquid hydrogen plant in Botlek, the Netherlands. Once operational in 2025, the plant will double Europe’s total current liquid hydrogen capacity.
Liquid hydrogen produced at the plant will be used to supply increased demands from high tech industries as well as the mobility market. It will contribute to the decarbonisation of heavy-duty vehicles on Europe’s path to climate neutrality by 2050.
Air Products is committed to contribute to the role of hydrogen in the energy transition. This project is an important milestone and a great addition to Air Products’ hydrogen capabilities in Europe.
Air Products Provides Hydrogen and Refuelling Infra-
structure to Zero-carbon Tourist Transit Network in UK
Air Products is providing hydrogen and refuelling infrastructure for the trial of a pioneering new zero-carbon transport network in the Peak District National Park. Delivered in partnership with stakeholders in the Peak District National Park and Chesterfield, the trial will test the suitability of both FCEV and EV vehicles for use in the area. The trial route connects eight key locations and attractions including Chesterfield Train Station, Chatsworth, and the Gateway development, which will act as a hub for ‘PEAK Express’ when it is due to open in 2025.
Carburos Metálicos’ 'Hydrogen Route' Refuels a New
Hydrogen City Bus Demonstration in Malaga
Carburos Metálicos participated in a week-long demonstration with a hydrogen bus in the city of Malaga. This demonstration is part of the Malaga City Council's Special Plan for Sustainable Urban Mobility until 2035, which is based on principles such as sustainability, and operational and energy efficiency.
Carburos Metálicos provided a portable hydrogen refuelling station, located at the facilities of Empresa Malagueña de Transportes, as well as the renewable hydrogen used in this real use demonstration. The renewable hydrogen supplied by Carburos Metálicos for this pilot demonstration comes from a production plant associated with a Guarantees of Origin (GoO) programme that certifies the renewable origin of the electricity used to obtain this hydrogen.
